Personal Fall Protection Equipment and Personal Fall Protection Systems

Personal fall protection equipment forms part of a personal fall protection system as defined in the European Standard EN 363.

A personal fall protection system protects the user from falling from a height by either:

• preventing a fall from occurring (referred to as a fall prevention system), or
• arresting a fall after it has occurred (referred to as a fall arrest system).

A personal fall protection system consists of three main components:

1. Anchor Device
2. Full Body Harness
3. Connecting Element (the component that connects the harness to the anchor device).

Fall Prevention Systems:

• Restraint Systems
• Work Positioning Systems
• Rope Access Systems
• Rescue Systems

Fall Arrest Systems:

• Energy-Absorbing Fall Arrest Systems

Note: Products must comply with the EN standards specified for the relevant fall protection system. Many products comply with multiple EN standards and may therefore be compatible with several different personal fall protection systems.
