3.3 Coupling

The coupling links the user and harness to the anchorage.

The coupling equipment required depends on the function of the system.

Common product categories and standards include:

• EN 354 – lanyards,
• EN 355 – energy absorbers,
• EN 360 – retractable type fall arresters,
• EN 353-1 – guided type fall arresters on rigid anchor lines,
• EN 353-2 – guided type fall arresters on flexible anchor lines,
• EN 358 – work positioning lanyards,
• EN 362 – connectors.

Rescue and rope access systems may also include:

• EN 341 – descender devices for rescue,
• EN 1496 – rescue lifting devices,
• EN 12841 – rope adjustment devices,
• EN 1891 – low-stretch kernmantel ropes.

Products conforming to the relevant EN standards are not automatically suitable for use together. Always check the manufacturers' requirements for use, compatibility, anchorage and limitations.

Remember

The correct standard does not automatically mean the correct combination.
