Periodic inspection is a planned and documented examination carried out by a competent person in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Its purpose is to determine whether the equipment remains safe to use.
The interval is governed by the manufacturer's instructions and the conditions of use. EN 365 requires the manufacturer's instructions to specify periodic examination at least every twelve months, although shorter intervals may be required depending on use, environment or manufacturer requirements.
This should not be confused with a general rule that Swedish Work Environment Authority provisions require an “annual inspection” of all personal fall protection equipment.
Remember
A pre-use check and a periodic inspection are two different checks.
