The risk assessment applies to the conditions that were assessed when the work was planned.
If the conditions change, the risks may also change.
The work therefore needs to be stopped or reassessed if, for example:
- weather or wind changes in a way that affects the work,
- the surface or work area changes,
- the working method needs to be changed,
- a planned anchorage cannot be used,
- personal fall protection equipment is damaged or its status becomes uncertain,
- other activities or people affect the work area,
- new fall hazards or other dangers are identified,
- the planned clearance is no longer available,
- the rescue plan can no longer be carried out,
- the employee no longer has the conditions required to continue the work safely.
The Swedish Work Environment Authority's provisions require work to be changed or stopped to a sufficient extent when someone identifies a particular risk of falling.
This does not mean that every change automatically requires all work to stop for the rest of the day.
It means that the work must not continue in the same way when the conditions on which the safe solution depends are no longer valid.
The risks must then be reassessed and the necessary measures taken before work continues.
The plan must reflect reality
A risk assessment is not simply a document that needs to exist.
It must reflect the work that is actually being performed.
If reality changes, the plan must change as well.
Remember
When the conditions change – reassess before continuing.
