Safe work involving fall risks starts before anyone puts on a harness or connects to a fall protection system.
The work must first be examined and the risks assessed. Measures are then selected in the correct order. If personal fall protection is still required, the system function that actually addresses the task is selected.
The planning process can be summarised as:
EXAMINE AND ASSESS → SELECT MEASURES → SELECT SYSTEM IF REQUIRED → VERIFY → REASSESS
In this chapter:
- what needs to be examined before work begins,
- the order in which fall risks should be addressed,
- what needs to be determined if personal fall protection is required,
- what needs to be verified before work starts,
- when the work needs to be stopped or reassessed.
